Thandan is the Malayalam word for the person who climbs the coconut trees to fell the coconuts. The Kayallu are the people, usually women, who collect the coconuts the Thandan cuts down.
One of my fondest memories from childhood was of the Thandan coming to our house, and watching in fascination as he shimmied up the trees in a matter of minutes. While the Thandan climbed the tree, I would try to imitate him and climb the swing in our garden. This series is a homage to this memory.
